Tryggvi M. Baldvinsson

Tryggvi M. Baldvinsson studied piano with the Icelandic pianist Jónas Ingimundarson and composition with the composers Atli Heimir Sveinsson (b. 1938) and Thorsteinn Hauksson (b. 1949) at the Reykjavík College of Music in 1984-1987. In 1987-1992 he studied composition and renaissance counterpoint with Professor Reinhold Portisch at the Vienna Conservatory, graduating with a Diploma in 1992. Since 1992 Mr. Baldvinsson has been active as a composer, conductor and a music teacher in Iceland, taught music theory and composition at the Reykjavík College of Music, Iceland Academy of the Arts and conducted the Workers Wind Band in Reykjavík. His output includes orchestral, solo and chamber works, songs and choral works, compositions for brass and wind band and ballet music. He has been involved in group activities amongst Icelandic composers, as a member of the board of the Society of Icelandic Composers as well as the Iceland Music Information Centre.
